Summer School at the Center for Life Ethics

Summer School at the Center for Life Ethics

Valuing Plurality, Decolonising Socio-ecological Futures

From July 16 to 22, the Center for Life Ethics and the Global Heritage Lab of the University of Bonn will host a Summer School on shaping desirable futures together with the University of Ghana. The background is that societies and their institutions, faced by multiple interwoven crises, seem to be lacking visions for their ethical futures and sustainable strategies, struggling to respond in ways that are commensurate with the scale of the problems. Despite various models and predictions regarding climate change, economic forecasts, health, and ideas for shaping international cooperation, there is a lack of understanding and engagement with the ethical values and processes that underly all societal and global future-making.

Students from the Universities of Bonn and Ghana will spend a week intensively exploring the issues of ethical plurality and the decolonization of socio-economic futures with leading experts from both universities and build a transnational network of excellent young researchers.

The Summer School will be led by Prof. Dr. Christiane Woopen (Center for Life Ethics) as well as Prof. Dr. Paul Basu (Global Heritage Lab) from the University of Bonn and Prof. Dr. Caesar Atuire from the University of Ghana. It takes place in the context of the application for a Cluster of Excellence on the topic "Envisioning Ethical Futures - New Research for Ethical Future-Making".
